The Bidiltha community site is located within Karijini National Park in the far North-West of Western Australia, approximately 150km from Tom Price in the Shire of Ashburton. The site consists of a central main building hub and four additional satellite buildings. Each satellite building can accommodate up to three to four families and is equipped with electricity and water.
The property also has access to a high-quality potable water aquifer at a depth of approximately 15m, ensuring a reliable drinking water source. However, there are no traditional utility services for electricity, gas, or sewage in this remote National Park location. Power is supplied via a hybrid generator, battery storage, and solar power generation system. These essential systems require reliable, high-speed internet access for remote monitoring, diagnostics, and support.
CHALLENGES
Severe Connectivity Challenges
Before the Upgrade
Prior to the upgrade, the community relied on NBN Skymuster satellite internet provided by Activ8Me. The service was highly unreliable, functioning only 1 day out of 7 on average, and frequently dropping out up to 30 times per day.
When operational, speeds averaged approximately 1Mbps download and 128Kbps upload, with a restrictive monthly data cap of just 200MB.
Communications were severely limited:
- No mobile phone reception (3G/4G/5G)
- No SMS capability
- No access to streaming services (YouTube, Netflix, etc.)
- Video conferencing via Teams, Zoom, Facebook or WhatsApp was not possible
- Emails could take 2–3 days to fully download
- Wi-Fi coverage was limited to the immediate area around the Activ8Me router and only supported basic 2.4GHz connections
With essential power, utility and community systems relying on remote management, this level of connectivity was unworkable.
OUR SOLUTION
High-Speed Connectivity Solution
Empowering the Bidiltha Community
Tang Technology delivered a fully engineered, end-to-end high-speed connectivity solution designed specifically for the environmental challenges, operational requirements, and future growth of the Bidiltha community.
At the core of the solution, Tang Technology deployed SpaceX Starlink to provide a reliable, high-bandwidth internet service capable of supporting real-time communications, remote monitoring, cloud services, and multi-user activity across the entire site. This established a high-performance primary internet connection where conventional satellite and mobile networks had consistently failed.
To ensure seamless and secure site-wide coverage, Tang Technology designed and installed a Ubiquiti enterprise-grade wireless network, including:
- High-speed Ubiquiti AC Wi-Fi access points installed in each residential and operational building
- Point-to-point wireless bridge links interconnecting all satellite buildings back to the central communications hub
- A dedicated Ubiquiti security firewall and router providing traffic inspection, network control and safe internet usage
- A Ubiquiti Cloud Wi-Fi Controller delivering centralised performance monitoring, user management and roaming support
This architecture ensures a stable, high-speed Wi-Fi experience across the entire site, allowing residents and staff to move freely without losing connection.
For operational infrastructure, Tang Technology provisioned Gigabit Ethernet connectivity to each satellite building, enabling reliable remote access and real-time support for:
- Solar power generation and hybrid battery management systems
- Potable water pumping and monitoring systems
- Onsite IoT, communications and control systems
With the new network in place, community members can now make and receive phone calls and SMS using Wi-Fi Calling, providing full communication capability despite the absence of mobile network coverage.
Consultation, Design and Pre-Configuration
Tang Technology prepared a solution design based on current needs and future expansion goals. All equipment was pre-assembled, configured, documented and soak-tested for two weeks at Tang Technology’s engineering workshop before shipment.
All installation materials, cabling, and consumables were shipped with the equipment. Tang Technology network engineers flew to Paraburdoo, travelled to Tom Price, and carried out a three-day onsite installation and commissioning visit at Bidiltha.

Engineering Site Works
Tang Technology engineers are highly experienced in performing deployments in remote and isolated environments with minimal services. This site presented typical remote-region challenges including high temperatures, humidity, wildlife hazards, and lack of local power, water, or support infrastructure.
The Tang Technology team arrived fully self-sufficient and equipped to complete the entire installation safely and efficiently. Our team holds key remote-field and technical certifications including:
- Working at Heights
- Remote 4WD & Bush Travel
- Confined Space
- Fibre Optic & Data Cabling
- Electrical Technician
- Off-Grid Power & Solar System Servicing
- PPE and site safety management
Day 1
- Established Starlink internet and core Ubiquiti networking infrastructure

THE OUTCOME
From Isolation to Connection: Transforming Bidiltha with Starlink and Ubiquiti Network Integration
The implementation of the SpaceX Starlink high-speed satellite internet service, combined with a fully engineered Ubiquiti wireless and point-to-point network, transformed Bidiltha from an isolated site with near-nonexistent communications into a reliably connected community and operational hub.
All five buildings are now linked to a central, high-bandwidth Starlink internet service, providing stable connectivity across the entire site. High-speed Wi-Fi is available in all indoor and outdoor working and living areas, with seamless roaming between buildings and open spaces. Mobile devices now utilise Wi-Fi calling, enabling clear, reliable voice calls and SMS messaging where previously there was no reception.
Critical on-site infrastructure — including the solar hybrid power generation system, battery storage, and potable water pumping system — has been successfully integrated into the network. These systems can now be remotely monitored and supported in real-time, eliminating the need for repeated on-site callouts and greatly improving operational resilience.
Internet speeds increased from approximately 1 Mbps / 128 kbps with unstable performance to a consistent 350 Mbps download / 100 Mbps upload with near-zero dropouts. Streaming services, video conferencing, email communications, cloud access, and remote maintenance tasks now work without interruption.
The community now benefits from:
- Stable, high-speed internet across the entire site
- Reliable voice calling and SMS via Wi-Fi calling
- Remote support of all critical utilities
- Improved education, telehealth, communication and cultural connection opportunities
- A scalable network infrastructure ready for future expansion
